COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will examine the causes of stress and its relationship to health. Topics include ways to eliminate stressors, changing the ways of thinking and managing stress. As a timely topic, the course will discover effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on well-being of individuals in relation to stress. Self-help techniques for managing stress and tension are explored.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe physiological, psychological, cognitive, sociological, and behavioral reactions to the stress response in each stage of the General Adaptation Syndrome
  • Evaluate actual and/or potential biological, psychosocial cultural and behavioral stress related factors that impact health and wellness
  • Analyze how changing societal expectations relate to stress
  • Analyze personal predisposing factors in the etiology of stress
  • Describe strategies for the development of self-awareness
  • Utilize self-awareness inventions and tools to appraise personal predisposing factors in the etiology of stress
  • Describe stress management strategies and interventions that may be employed to promote and maintain health and wellness
  • Describe relaxation techniques for the management of stress
  • Synthesize lifestyle changes related to health and wellness promotion
